The Promise of Web Widgets Fulfilled
While web widgets have long held the promise of viral, effective distribution and promotion on social networks and elsewhere on the web, actually implementing a widget strategy was not an easy task. “We were looking for an end-to-end solution that would give us flexibility, time-to-market and the ability to optimize and improve easily” says Marco Hansell, Fan Force CEO.
Fan Force turned to MuseStorm to provide the solution to its widget strategy. The MuseStorm Content Engagement Platform provides an authoring environment that enables publishers and marketers to easily create rich media widgets, the ability to deliver widgets and applications anywhere on the web and on desktops as well as detailed distribution and interaction metrics
Using the MuseStorm service, Fan Force created a widget that included an exclusive track available on the widget only, a video clip of the hit single “Anonymous”, album information, concert information and Bobby’s mobile fan club number to allow fans to connect to Bobby even further.
Fan Force promoted the widget cost-effectively by placing the widget on Bobby’s MySpace page and on fellow DTP Records artists’ Ludacris MySpace page. An email bulletin was sent to DTP Record’s mailing list as well.
Results
The results were astounding: within a week the widget received well over 500,000 impressions. Within a month, thousands of users across hundreds of websites and social networks have embedded the widget and video clip views grew 400%. More than 12,000 new fans have registered to the Bobby Valentino mobile fan club as a result of the widget campaign, 8000 of which did so in the first few weeks after the widget launch.
