Anatomy of this Widget

If you are old enough to remember the Partridge family, you’re probably reading this website with the help of reading glasses.  The rest of us known Danny Bonaduce not as a the child star of the 70s-era sit com but as a media personality with a larger-than-life presence on MySpace.  CBS Mobile works with Danny Bonaduce to produce custom content as a “life coach” for CBS Mobile and also for the web.  Web content is delivered exclusively through this widget, developed on the MuseStorm Engagement Platform.

What makes this widget so successful for CBS Mobile?  Two things.  Analytics coupled with a commitment to frequent updates which keeps this widget fresh and engaging over time.  Analytics gives marketing managers at CBS Mobile the information they needed in four distinct stages over the lifecycle of the widget:

  • Stage 1 - Usability
Ensuring the widget flow made sense to the consumer and they aren’t getting stuck anywhere in the widget flow
  • Stage 2 - Engagement
Understanding which types of content were most engaging to different types of consumers
  • Stage 3 - Viral Hot Spots
Identifying the consumers responsible for the majority of sharing activity so as to better understand their wants and needs
  • Stage 4 - Durability
Determining the frequency and type of content needed to avoid wear out

In short, the analytics provided by the MuseStorm Engagement Platform were used by the CBS Mobile folks in a very thoughtful way - to hone how consumers interact with the widget and increase viral velocity.
